Measurement of an FET

03/04/2007 11:36 AM

What are the different quantities of a "field effect transistor" that can be measured using a digital multimeter? and how is the accuracy of measurement affected by the precision of the instrument? Can anyone guide me as to what are the circumstances with respect to which measurement of any specific variables becomes important in a FET? 2) What advantages do each of the digital and analogue meters have over the other with respect to instrumentation etc?

It can he hard to make any general measurements of a FET with a DVM.

The FET lacks the usual junction structure of a PNP or NPN device.

Think of a rubber tube carrying water, you crush that tube with a pair of pliers, and thus modulate the flow, yet your hands and the pliers remain dry.

Suggest you follow these link sets, read here and there

Also, if you are speaking of JFET's there is a large variability in the characteristics of these devices even among components from the same batch. You may also wish to seek application information from manufacturers. I'm sure if you google it you will find links to a number of manufacturers.
