Time Dependent Replacement of Thermal Detectors

08/21/2010 11:36 PM

Thermal detectors (of different make and model e.g. Fennwal, Thorn, Tyco etc.) are installed at various locations as safety precaution in the control rooms, SWGR rooms etc. in an offshore process plant in India.

Is there any international practice for time dependent replacement of these detectors with new one? If so, what is the said practice? Does it follow any given standard or guideline? If so, what is the standard name/reference no. ? How to ascertain that the quality of the detectors is not degraded even if the time is not long enough after its installation or last replacement?

Re: Any Time dependent replacement Policy of detectors

In my time dealing with security systems, there wasn't any mandatory time to replace a given device.

That said, for the most part most sensors for security/fire have an intended life span of 5 years. Any service life you have above that is a bonus.

As long as your sensors are tested regularly (i.e. every 6months), and they work as intended. Then you should not have any issues per se.

Preventative maintenance is your best solution.
