Tell Tale Hole Location

08/22/2010 1:20 AM

What is the correct method of providing tell tale hole on R.F. pad. As far as my knowledge it is placed along vertical axis of vessel. Is it true & why?

No.
On any RF circuit the track lengths and hole positions are determined by geometry/wavelength and a sprinkling of black magic.

Hello!!

What is the sprinkling of black magic? I think the RF circuit is not what I am asking about, R. F. Pad (reinforcement pad) for nozzles on pressure vessels is what I have asked. I think RF circuit is different than R.F. pad.Kindly reply me about it.

Thanks.

Is leakage testing, the only purpose of providing tell tale hole on reinforcement pad?

Another reason for the hole:

If there is internal leakage around the nozzle, no leakage around the periphery of the reinforcement, and no telltale (relief) hole, then there is a large area subjected to internal pressure and possible failure under the pad.

The hole is not for leakage testing, it is for indication of leakage.

The hole is used to do a pneumatic pressure test of the attachment weld around the reinforcing plate. 100 kPa (15 psi) gauge pressure is applied via the tell tale hole and a soap solution is applied to the plate attachment weld to look for leeks. (Welsh leaks ).
