PUMA 230S with Fanuc 18iT

08/24/2010 6:15 PM

Hello guys

I'm in trouble with a CNC lathe that shows the alarm No.2001, the reset key won't do nothing and I have the hydraulic Motor O.L. as well as X, Z and B axes' Torque Limit signals "ON" in the ladder logic, but not electrically.

When I manually force any of these signals I can see them going on and off (24v to 0v) at the input module, but I see no change on the ladder logic.

I already swapped one digital I/O board with a running lathe, but made no difference.

The operator said he pressed and hold P and CAN keys while turning on the control, but I think this only clears the programs and offsets, right?

I'd greatly appreciate any help.

I would refrain from 'forcing' any more signals and employ the services of a qualified controls engineer familiar with your equipment (hint-FANUC) before the trouble you're in gets bigger.

Sounds good to me, besides I'll be busy reading the parameters and maintenance manuals in the interin.

Thanks

Time well spent.

Be sure and highlight anything in the maintenance manual that you don't understand and/or think might be incorrect. Then bring it to the attention of the highly paid professional troubleshooter your company has paid for and ask him/her to explain it to you. Don't be shy, pick their brains while they're there!!

Years ago, I ran into a similar problem with an American Lathe and a GE-100 NC controller. We had a "new" programmer" who wrote the BCD tape program.

The program consisted of setting the clutches with either a M-20 or M30 command, followed by M-200 or M-300 operation. One M-code sets the CCW clutches, and the other M-code sets the CW clutches.

When the lathe executed the M-X0 operation and followed with the M-X00 operation, we got a Motor O.L. (Alarm), Torque Limit O.L. (Alarm), and shut down.

Please review the tape sequence to assure that the proper clutches are set prior to performing the operation. It sounds simple, but troubleshooting (with an insistant programmer) took 2 weeks.

I hope this helps. Back then, a GE Engioneer cost $165.00/ hour. Good Luck in the contest

There is a time delay present that will not allow the motor controllers for the multiple axis signals to engage. If the time delay isn't long enough...poof! Nothing happens. Check the delay vs the axis-on signals (X, Y and Z). A dual channel scope makes this a piece of cake. If more axis' are involved, these need to be checked too. LUCK COMES AND GOES. GNAWLEDGE AND SKILLS ARE FOREVAR.

the P Can thing will release most existing errors and allow you to start. what happened before you got the alarms?

When I manually force any of these signals I can see them going on and off (24v to 0v) at the input module, but I see no change on the ladder logic.

When you say this, it says to me that the Controller isn't in it's RUN Mode for some reason. Can you confirm this and find out the reason for it?

do not have fanuc manual. We had simular issues with shoda routers with m15 fanuc controlers.check your soft over travel if you have optic feed back. It turned out a piece of crap interfered between the emmiter and receiver. p911
