Are We Becoming Politically Correct?

08/24/2010 7:42 PM

I just posted a wisenheimer answer (but still an answer) that got voted off-topic pretty quickly. Is somebody moving posts to off-topic or are there that many censors out there? I've been on here a few moons and I pretty much mark myself off-topic when I am.

And what's the point of this whiny post? Want someone to un-mark you? Does it throw your GA/OT spread sheet off to get them?

OK, I'm gonna do my part.

I, too, have seen a rise in my OT count, and it makes me smile. What the hell? Does it really matter. I find I desirve most of mine. Then, I balance that against the undeserved GA's I get and it comes out just about right.

Ya wisenheimer!

We don't know how to engineer Religion; and the folks who have engineered politics have botched it up beyond our ability to repair. Milo

Just need to use fuzzy logic for religion & politics.

I have also noticed a lot of spurious OTs. I was a bit miffed at first, then thought 'don't worry, be happy'.

Why in the world was this comment voted OT? Seems spot on answer to the OP, as well as Guest #4. I believe it a GA, and vote accordingly.

I've posted some wisea$$ answers myself, most of us have. It seems like some of these posts piss people off to the point, that they will follow you around and mark everything you post as OT. My conclusion........Who cares?

I've got GA's that are just wisecracks too.........again......who cares?

Fortunately, the vast bulk of smarta$$ answers are on threads that shouldn't even be here, so they don't really take away from the overall quality of the site.

Don't worry about it.

The GA system actually works the way it was intended. If someone has an honest and serious question pertaining to engineering and they use the search button to the right, the GA's within the thread(s) that come up, will most likely contain their answer.

Our off base GA's are typically within threads that would never be searched out, so, no harm done.

Oh, I don't care two hoots about GAs. But OTs become "not visible" for many. It's the censorship I don't care for.

I don't give 2 hoots about OT's either. The first thing I do on a thread is expand the OT's so they are visible. If it was true censorship, you wouldn't even be able to see them.

And what the hell are two hoots, don't get smart with me buddy!

Guest,

Two questions:

Do you know your own name? If so, why not use it?

Do you know what wisenheimer means?

While not certain, I think this post has the CR4 record for the most OT votes.

The moderators have a little fun with us sometimes, I think. If I make a wisecrack and a moderator decides it is time to whack me for a big OT, so what? Sometimes it (a big OT count) is funnier than the wiseacre comment I made in the first place.

I can't imagine that it's the moderators marking OT's (except for the big number thing, that is a joke, eh). I have noticed some sadly misplaced individuals posting on CR4 in the last few weeks, making religious and self-righteous remarks and picking fights where they can. Some guests and some not. Yes, I saw some threads disappear, and maybe some of the invaders got banned as well. The OT's could be a residue of that little invasion that is still in the system....

The moderators seem pretty much a sane bunch, at least. But they can't be everywhere. They can see who is voting what, of course, which we cannot. If there are abusers, the moderators will track it down, eventually. At least, that's what I reckon.

On the other hand....

I notice this morning that there are several apparently harmless threads that have been closed for ???? reasons which are not clear to me. Is there a 'behavioral policy' that I missed?

As long as we can make fun and laugh at ourselves, who cares if we become politically correct. Some where a good book says "all things in moderation".
