Nothing; like all jobs they're dead ends in themselves. Simply being very good at them will still get younowhere. Everybody knows that if you truly want to climb up the corporate ladder you'll have to stab your coworkers in the back, kiss the boss' ass and lick his boots.

If I have to lick his boots, I want to work in a Chocolate factory!

Since becoming a pipe design engineer, I have grown by about 2kg/yr (no need to discuss how many years). But it probably beats being a SAP, whatever that is....

Come on Tornado, you can't possibly be that huge...... and I never thought of you as a SAP either.

Thank goodness I was only joking; I've been a steady 210 lb ≈ 99 kg for a long while. It's quite the runaround to keep a fish plant going--good for staying in shape.

I seem to have acquired a fan club of one "guest" who thinks I'm a SAP, though.

I had experience with both piping design engineering and SAP Basis consultants. Piping Design engineering is relatively much easier eventhough laborious. I have seen SAP consultants working long after evening hours configuring software and de-bugging. I would choose piping over SAP anyday. But if you're interested in challenges, you might go for SAP. It depends on one's attitude. As for growth, both have good prospects.

Wish you good luck, whatever you choose.
