Internet Connection in Windows XP.

How to disable internet connection temporarily from standalone computer in Windows XP Professional Computer in broadband system? Later on, I wish to make it on, and surf the internet. But, I do not wish to make LAN off. This is with reference to office environment.

Sorry, I missread the post, so I've deleted my incorrect answer.
I shall go and sit in the wheelie bin on the naughty step.

Put the PC in the wheelie bin, it can't get on line from there.

If you use a firewall like Zonealarm you can simply turn off internet connectivity with one click without losing LAN connectivity. Not sure how to do it from XP Control Panel though.

I may be wrong, but it almost sounds like you've got a networked computer at work and you want to get off the network and surf the web without getting caught.

If this is correct, you are going to have to talk to the network administrator, in which case you will be caught. If I am wrong, please specify what it is, exactly you are trying to accomplish. No one here cares if you want to "goof" off at work, a better explanation might yield better results though.

It sounds to me like you want to disconnect from the network, without disabling the LAN and when you want to return to the network as in 'surf the net' you would be able to.

Unplug your RJ45 Ethernet line. When you want to surf the web, plug yourself back in.

Uh, to get "off" the internet:

In Internet Explorer or Firefox, click File, then click Work Offline.

To turn the internet back "on", click File, then uncheck Work Offline.

Just right-click on internet-connection Icon in System tray [Wireless] ---> click 'Sttus' ---> click 'Disable' button.

For Lan ... just pull out Data cable

To activate click Start --> Control Panel --> NetworkConnections --> Wireless Connections ...

The most simple solution is to use proxy server in internet explorer settings and set the IP address to 127.0.0.1 port 80. To re-enable just uncheck the proxy server option.

Sorry should have pointed you to where the settings for proxy server are:

Tools - Internet Options - Connections Tab - Lan Settings - Use a proxy server for your lan.

Check the Bypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses box.

The simple solution is to unplug the cable at the telephone socket and reconnect when you finish what you're doing offline.

As I understood our post,

you are connected to a LAN and thru this LAN to internet,

You want to keep connected to LAN but not to Internet,

is it?

if so , only your LAN administrator can enable/disable your internet connectivity.

May be in software & programming forum you may find better answer

Regards

The easiest thing to do is disable it from your anti-virus software, the better softwares offer temporary halt as a feature. If your does not then you can disable the network connection from the network connections page.
