Go with your gut. Forget about the money, let the field choose you.

What do you most enjoy?

Personally, I would not pursue the MS until you clear the trainee from your title.

An MS with no experience is worse than No MS, In my experience.

Serve your apprenticeship and master your current position. When there is no longer much challenge, then it will be time to pursue MS.

And by then, you will know from your life experience, in what field you should pursue it, based on lessons learned and your judgement.

Do not be side tracked by all the fuss on emerging energy technology. If you master the basics of engineering, you can master any type of energy technology (except nuclear fusion perhaps)

Getting a masters degree is an excellent choice in this regard. However, be careful of programs who advertise them selves as "green energy", "emerging energy" technology etc.. You could potentially limit yourself to specialized fields like Solar PV's (whose future, by the way, is not guaranteed in the market).

I say you are much better off with a traditional engineering program with an emphasis on heat transfer, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics (as this is essentially your area of interest).Equipped with a firm understanding of the core, you can branch out to whatever suits your interests or what ever the market prefers .

Dear Guest, you are asking other people to make a value judgment for you. what do you value? Whatever you do chose.... you have to make decisions, in order to learn. Good luck

Yes i think you should finish your training first.. Then explore all of engineering related-things in there.. I believe this is will guide you to choose your field of interest..

I have a friend who has joined Chevron for around three years, but he decided to leave Chevron a month ago to continue his study to Master's degree. He takes Sustainable Energy in TU Delft Holland. I think that's a good field to learn about, but no idea if you ask me whether Sustainable Energy is good for you or has a good future. Maybe the other member could help us to explain about Sustainable Energy's future.

Hopefully my answer would be helpful.

Well from my point of view, first thing is to ask yourself that why you want to do MS? what will be the benefits of MS for you? Short term and long term.

The reason i am telling you this because i am in Australia and have done B.tech. Few friends of mine has done M.E. but earning the same money or less money than me. I am sure higher education will help them in future but when we finished study did not make any difference.

You are working in technical environment currently, have you given a though that where do you want to see your self in long run. Why MS not MBA, the reason behind this is MS might keep you in technical field only, but MBA can help you getting you in to management. i am not saying MS wont take you in to management, but technical base (BE) with management degree will help you lot taking you in to higher position quicker. (Besides degrees all of this depends on your performance)

so at the end, best thing is to give a year or two in the company and try to understand where you want yourself to be in future and than decide weather you want to do MS or not and if not you will have the answers why not, from experience.
