Vee-Vee Connection of PT

08/27/2010 2:49 PM

Dear sir

I have two tested healthy PTs.The PT Ratio is 11KV/110V.This is erected in V-V connection in one of the 11KV incomer feeders. The primary neutral and secondary neutral are earthed.

We are energising the cable only. Then after a few seconds,we heard a heavy sound and the upstream breaker tripped.

On open examination we found that the cable burst.

My doubt is:

Whether the PTs connected in V-V connection can hold 11KV supply or not?

Please kindly reply your suggestion or opinion on the matter.

Regards,

gova

Dear sir

One small correction in my previous post.

The PT Ratio is 11KV/root 3 / 110V/root3.

I am not actually understanding Vee-Vee connection in a 3 phase PT connection, can u explain me for what kind of application it is used to generate what voltage.

your diagram shows only a single phase connected to two fuse units, not sure?. are you telling about star connection.

Dear sir

Out of 3 PTs required, one PT is defective and two PTs are available at Healthy condition.Hence two PTs only put in service as shown in fig.

by connecting only 2 phase PT's how did you obtain 110V in the PT secondary, as per my experience this kind of connection cannot fetch you the required voltage.

energising the cables which cables, the cables from the PT to the metering instruments, your question is not clear and details provided is not enough, whether the PT's are outdoor type or indoor type.

And upstream breaker trip this mean that the PT's are coming before a transformer and the breaker or in a Bus.

a balanced 3 phase condition is not achieved in your connection and PT's are not easy to handle if we do wrong connections.

if a rough sketch of your SLD is provided we can give you more suggestions about your problem.

In previous post,I told the 11KV HT cable burst.Cable burst was in its terminal. Then cable termination was done newly.

Then, after cleaning, meggering and conducting High voltage test,we put back the equipments shown in sketch in service.

As shown in sketch, only two PTs connected. The secondary voltage is 110 Volt between R ph and B ph.

I doubt "Ferro-resonance" in your system.
