Have you suddenly become a ships mechanic?

All of the questions you have asked are answered by the service manuals of the equipment in question.

We can't inject you with the knowledge to repair and maintain all the systems aboard ship.

For every equipment there must be a operation and maintenance manual. Reading and understanding of the O & M Manual is the first requirement to understand the working of the equipment . Regular preventive maintenance and other check lists as mentioned in the O & M manual are to be carried out regularly to keep downtime of it to minimum.
