I don't know what you want to clarify! Please check the working condition (temp., press. ) and you can consider A105 is relevant or not. A105 can work down to -20°F(-29°C) and you can read more in ASME B16.5 (Pipe flanges and flange fittings) and ASTM A105.

Dear doungtrung84: the issue is not about pressure or temp, but I need to have ASMI article that allows using a backup flange made of material A105 to a SS 316L stub end.

thanks for your responds

1st: ASME not ASMI.

• 2nd: Using of CS lap joint flange with SS stub-end flange is only to minimize the cost, and this usage is practical where no welding joint between the lap joint flange (loose) and stub-end flange, and nothing in the code recommends that, it just a practical wise. .

• 3rd: But due to the welding joint located between the stub end flange and end of pipe, the both material must be compatible, i.e no way to weld one CS with other SS.

Dear Mr. Galala

I would like to thank you for your answer.

Lanal "Engineering Standard Manuals" issued some pages where they gathered the butter out of the numerous no. of ASME pages.

within these pages they had shown Back up flange made of A105 allowed to be used on a SS stub end.

I cant attach the PDF file of such papers due to some specific features of this site.
