Line Sizing

09/05/2010 4:40 AM

what should be the line size if im recirculating part of liquid to tank and partly to consumer? See my pump flow is 2.0 CMH and my process requirement is 0.5 CMH. Liquid being used is water.

Hi bhalchandra,

Generally with water flow you'll size lines for 1.5 - 2.0 m/s velocity. In this range you shouldn't have to worry about water hammer issues, nor friction loss (will be minimal at this velocity).

Yuo can go higher than the velocity recomended above, but do so with care. Even up to 3 or 3.5 m/sec should be OK.

Recommend using 2 m/s in your calculations, to find the diameter of the line.

Kind Regards,

Anthony
