Three Phase Generator

09/05/2010 8:13 AM

hi,

can some one pls help me on this

there is three phase ac generator dual voltage 230v/380v, there is no marking on the 12 leads of the generator but it looks connected on low as each phase has two cables connected to it.

now if i will connect it on high voltage 380v, for example phase 1, i dont know which is lead no:1,4,7,10. so can i connect these two coils on series without looking if terminal no 1 is the live side and terminal 7 is connected to terminal 4.

in other words: does it matter if coil with terminals 1,4 will be at the live side or neutral side and same for the coil with terminals 7,10?

hope you understand what i mean.

thanks for your help

Not realy but try this

Phase1 coil 1 terminals 1&4 coil2 terminals 7&10

Phase2 coil 1 terminals 2&5 coil2 terminals 8&11

Phase1 coil 1 terminals 3&6 coil2 terminals 9&12

For higher voltage connect

4 to 7

5 to 8

6 to 9

Neutral 123

L1 out 10

L2 out 11

L3 out 12

hi, thanks for your reply.

the problem here that there is no marking on the wires and i dont know which is 1 or 2 or ....etc

on each phase there are two coils connected on parallel thats why i thought it connected on low voltage, now to connect on high i need to make each two parallel coils on series.

does it matter if i just make the two parallel coils to series connection without looking if it is connected for example 4 to 7 or 4 to 10, 1 to 7 or 1 to 10?

thanks

You can test this easily:

Disconnect one coil and connect in series. You might end up with double the voltage or about zero?

It is correct that you end up with double voltage or nothing. But with this test you find the connention between terminals 4/7 and 5/8 and 6/9. But you still not know

  • which lead is lead number 1 or 10
  • which lead is lead number 2 and 11
  • which lead is lead number 3 and 12

To solve this, you have to make a random connection for the "start" and the "ends" of each phase in a wye point. If it is not the correct way there are only 4 possiblities to connect the wye point. Just try them all.

  • Which manufacturer?
  • What model?
  • Where is the manual?
  • Where is the telephone?

As Tonys suggested:

To find the ends start by looking at the ends that are put together for Neutral, in the existing configuration (Low voltage parallel). These will be your 1,2,3 and 7,8,9

Now every output phase had 2 ends: 4,10 ; 5,11 ; 6,12

By separating them one phase at a time, you will be able to identify which is which coil.

guest; if you have ring terminals on the end of the leads, check them for the numbers. perry
