09/06/2010 1:54 PM

Can acetone or propanol dissolve the plastic components of printed circuit board completely,so that metals can be recovered from it,if not is there any other solvent which can do so ?

No. If it were that simple, everyone would already be doing it.

You don't understand the process.

I'd start by using a search engine and looking at recycling PCB's.

Do your own research. Then, if you ever have a valid question come back here and we'll help. Don't expect us to do all your work for you.

Don't expect to see you back here.

Good luck.

I recall a discussion a while back about someone trying do this using acid to dissolve all but the metals, but for some reason, I can't find the thread. It's not an easy process, and there are lots of "nasty" things to deal with; bromines, lead, arsenic, etc.

I saw a documentary once where somewhere in China these poor villagers were basically "burning" the boards to recover the metals, releasing all kinds of toxins to the air, not a good place to raise the kids! If you do try to do this, please be environmentally friendly.
