Diesel Tank Gasket Cement

09/08/2010 1:07 AM

I have Stainless Steel Diesel Tank inspection hatches. What sealing product(cement) should I use between the Buna-N gasket and the Stainless, if any? Thanks, JD

It shouldn't need any.

Polysulfide sealants work well when exposed to fuels. There may be others.

Why would anybody want to add cement when they already have rubber gaskets? You should not need cement, but if the rubber is so old that they now require cement, it will be better to get new gaskets.

If the design of the flange can insure minimal compression of the gasket material of about 10% around the entire seal perimeter (like an O-ring seal) then no cement should be required. If the flanges are not flat or stiff enough to provide uniform compression, an adhesive will be required
