We used diamond slurry on our metallographic polishing wheels to clean up our watch crystals.

This is the product they use here to remove scratches from float and tempered flat glass can also be used on windshields or auto door glass.

http://www.crlaurence.ca/crlapps/showline/offerpage.aspx?Productid=12781&GroupID=12939&History=39324:111:6463:6513&ModelID=12939

They also will have the tools to apply it.

I know that Cerium oxide is being used as a polishing compound for very light scratches but for the deep scratches we have been using 3M Trizact PSA abrasive discs. Just want to know about some more abrasives available in the market so that we could try.

If you want to go cheap you can use 2400 grid polishing paper.

you can also use 0.25 micron alumina powder in slurry to polish glass

you can use 0.25 or lower size diamond particle based slurry also.

All of the above will have lower strength than actual a glass should be under virgin condition

If after polishing you dip in 2 % hydrofluoric and 2% sulfuric acid solution it will be strong and well polished also.

It depends on what is important and how much each is importance to you

I have done my Ph.D. in glass from Alfred University in New York (World biggest Ceramic and glass University) and have polished in my life few thousands of samples.

If you need further help just ask and will walk you through. At the end of day it is what you are looking for dictates what tools and consumable you will use.

I have used 2400 silicon carbide grid, 0.25 alumina slurry, 0.1 micron diamond suspension and all work but what you need is important based on your application.

We use a variety of wood and drywall abrasive sheets to achieve scratch removal from glass with a final polish phase after the scratches are gone.
