ASME B16.5 , Calculation / Formulae of Volume of Flanges

09/11/2010 7:32 AM

CONSIDERING, 0% TOLERANCE & DIMENSIONS OF ASME B16.5, CAN YOU PL. GET ME FORMULAE OF VOLUME OF EACH TYPE OF FLANGES ?

ALSO, WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE % DIFFERECE IN MIN & MAX VOL. OF ALL TYPES OF FLANGES.

It's just elementary geometry, consisting of adding and subtracting the volumes of various cylinders (V = pi r2h) and cones (V = pi r2h/3).

Or you could do it the Archimedes way: Put each into a graduated bucket of water and read off the liquid rise.

TRUE & thank you. Archimedes theory is possible if we have acess to graduated vessel and all the types / sizes / classes of flanges.

WNRF is like a cut cone , making it difficult to apply geometry rules.

I was/ am looking for some readymade tables / There is too much of work to do with respect to tolerance of variables in dimensions.

I tried summing up the sections of SORF & applied formulae in xls. In certain sozes, I found a great discrepancy in theoritical weight vs approx. weight. (SPG of 304 = 8.3, 316 = 7.99?)

If some has done this work, it is quite helpful.

Also, it is understood that VOLUME OF CUT CONE = vol. of imaginary full size cone -(minus) vol. of imaginary top of the cone which is absent.

So, geometrical approach is possible, but, there is too much of work. So, I sought for the help if some one has already done this exercise.

The best bet might be to find a catalogue that gives weights.

Here's a calculator to get you started.
