Size of earth conductor (or bus) cannot be found by name where it is to be used in you case "operation theater."

Pl specify some more details.

This is a very complex issue and not one left to information gleaned from an Internet forum. My advice to you, is to contact a reputable electrical engineering firm to do the engineering and planning for this project.

Failure on the part of anyone involved in this project to execute it properly can lead to severe risk being present to both the patients and medical staff. Do not take this information lightly.

I have been involved in several of these projects from a safety regulators perspective. In Canada, the codes and standards that would need to be followed include section 24 of the Canadian Electrical Code and the CSA standard CAN_CSA Z32-04 - Electrical Safety and Essential Electrical Systems in Health Care Facilities. These codes are available at...

You need to ensure that the codes and standards in effect in your jurisdiction are followed.

The advice is very valid & in fact should be taken as a caution.

ANY MINOR LAPSE CAN LEAD TO DANGEROUS CONSEQUENCES.

Problem gets even more complicated,

  • as there will be more than one source of power supply -- commercial supply, standby generator, UPS system etc., and
  • on the environment side use of anasthetic gases in operating theaters can cause an explosive atmosphere, and proper earthing contributes to the safety in combination with other productive devices.
  • Many devices/equipment connected to the patient use high voltage.
  • Flooring in combination with wheels of the patient trolley can cause static electricity build up.

As such the question of size of cable for earthing is a dangerous question; Half knowledge can be very dangerous.

A forum of this nature can bring in expert openion to solve problems. But taking an isolated - apparantly simple questions and an answer to the limited question without taking into cognisance other issues of equipment, environment, HVAC cannot be answered in a few sentences.
