To quickly answer your question: Varnish remover. ***
What part of the transformer do you want cleaned of varnish? The core? the windings? The paper insulation? The varnish covers all of the parts except the contacts or exposed wire ends. The winding wire is insulated with a varnish. If this insulation is removed, your transformer will short out and could cause a fire or electrocute someone. Is it a large transformer? What kind? Does it handle a lot of power? Why do you want the varnish removed. If you remove some varnish you will remove it from all parts in that area. if you want to use the wire it will have no electrical insulation. Varnish removers can be very dangerous, they are corrosive, flammable, harmful, poisonous or any combination of all these hazards. *** Take great care. Do whatever you do carefully and safely.
