SCC/HIC detection by RT methods

09/29/2010 1:14 PM

Has any one had much success detecting SCC/HIC by using radiography? I have a pressure vessel that shows indications of SCC by UT methods however my client is requesting RT verification of these results. It's been my experience that normally the cracking involved, unless it is in advanced stages, is to fine to be seen on a radiograph with any real reliability. Is there maybe a technique that works better than others?

Done some of on pipelines not vessels.

It may work better if you were to stand the film off a bit and blow the SCC up. Computed RT is much better than film for looking at SCC. It should be detectable being that the location has been found with UT. You aren't looking at a broad area with RT just prove up of the UT spot.
