How to Clean the Drives and Other Items in Panel Room?

10/01/2010 7:14 AM

Dear Friends;

In our Corrugator plant, there are many drives, PLCs etc. which are segregated in different Air conditioned panel rooms. There is only one door of each panel room. Now problem is that whenever we clean the drives with blower, the dust particles spread in panel room. Though we switch on the exhaust but dust is too much. I want to know if any body knows about such equipment which can help us in such a job or any other idea. I have experienced that Vacuum cleaner can not suck all the dust from drives, only blower works well.

One thing that would help immensely, would be to set up your air handling equipment to keep positive pressure on these rooms. When the doors are opened, air blows out.

Combine that with running the incoming air through HEPA filters and I think your dust problem should pretty much go away. If you really want to go crazy, you could also have people entering the rooms put on lint free coveralls.

They also sell soft horse hair vacuum attachments which may help.

I believe kramarat has a good idea; slight positive pressure will help.

You tell us the room is air conditioned... alter the air balance to accomplish this, whether the air conditioner is operating or not (probably set up now to blow air only when being cooled). There should be enough positive inside the room that when the door is closed, a paper napkin will be carried gently through the gap under the door by the passage of air.

Why not use a combination of both - blow the dust from the crevices, and suck up the cloud with the vacuum as it is created, then apply what you can from the other suggestions to reduce the frequency of the problem.

Hi, it is pretty difficult to build a combined blower, brusher, sucker head.

Make a linear blowing orifice in the center tightly surrounded by a much brush and with some distance (minimum 1 cm) a wider sucking opening that is totally surrounding the brush.

This will help, I used this on cleaning dirty parts to be brought into a clean room.

Then: install an electrostatic filter: this will get collected the ugly fine dust that attaches everywhere.

Then: overpressure as recommended above, is a necessity.

Then: your doors if swinging open and closed will generate large vortices with velocities that carry air and dust against the flow from the overpressure into the room.

So get rid of doors and install curtains from (plastic) strips as often used around machines. This will limit the intake of dusty air to a minimum.

Ultimate: let nobody go in!
