Analog or Digital IC

10/07/2010 11:23 AM

Dear Gurus,

How can I know the function of this IC chip K561NE5A. ( please refer to attached file )

I am also confused about the "n" letter on part no., is it actually "n" or something else?

I have just started doing control pcb upgrading for old vessels. I could not find the schematic diagram.

This IC chip is used in the Oil Inlet Pressure Low alarm pcb.

Thank you.

Welcome to the world of reverse engineering. I suspect that you have a relabeled IC here. The chip was relabeled for at least one of several dozen possible reasons. The most common reason that a chip will be relabeled is to make it difficult to copy a design. But there are also a host of other possible reasons for the relabeling that maybe pertinent to oil pressure sensing; higher quality temperature stability, change in open loop gain, safety concerns. I would suspect that this is an operational amplifier package, but it could be a stand alone microcontroller. Likely the 4 digit code refers to the date of the chip's manufacture, 1992 week 09.

There are "older" chips made with the designator K561. Possibly searching for that code will help. I enlarged your photo and the "N" may be an omega, not sure, but try looking at just K561 results. Yes, the normal dating method would tell us it was manufactured Sep-1992.

The last part of what I typed didn't show...operator error I'm sure!! If the key resides in the last portion of the number, and if it is OmegaE5A, and without testing it (lots of qualifications huh) I would guess it is a solid state relay maximum load current chip, small load of course.

i faced a similar problem some years ago, this chip is russian , so your chip number is K561LE5 and the equivalent is CMOS 4001 .

the letter L in russian looks different .....

good luck with the rest.

The chip is the one shown in the link below and is definitely Russian, also it says it's analogue

i did check your link and there's a small table at the left side that says : Technology 4000 , which means it's C-MOS 4000 series , so it's digital not analogue.

Dear Amerlathgani ,

Thanks for your information.

I will try replacing it with CD4001.( CMOS NOR gate )

Thanks again.

Just to confirm that the n is a Russian L

PLUS it's a quad 2 input NOR

Identify the Chip manufacturer's logo then contact them.

They will have a record, if they are willing to share the information with you.

Alternatively, talk to the equipment manufacturer if they still exist.....
