The purpose of this conversion is to make a document created using proprietary software portable thereby allowing this file to be read outside the write application used.

If you are looking to reduce the size of a portable file, compress the file as the second step.

There are many apps available for this purpose. The files would first have to be "unzipped" by the recipient before they can be loaded on the PC.

My experience is that MS Word provides a smaller net file size for basic text-type files, compared to Acrobat. The real space savings for .pdf files is when you are sending documents that contain diagrams and pictures.

Probably most of those pdf files you received were done with the Acrobat program that has the "optimize" feature built in to reduce file size. Converting from MS to Pdf will not automatically reduce your file size. Better zip the file.

Yves,

What software are you using to create your PDF's? In the full version of Acrobat, there are a lot of options that control the final size of the output PDF. There's even a "reduce file size" option in the "File" drop-down menu, in the version of Acrobat Pro we have here at my workplace.

But I wonder whether the size could be customized after pdf conversion processing?
