Depending on the dose they can either save your life (defibrillator) or kill you (electric chair).

That pretty much covers the spectrum of the Human Experience, doesn't it?

Somewhere in between is the TENS effect, Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation. Can be very nice in the right spots...

Yes but it gets tedious having to explain to everyone you meet why there are all those wires coming out of your pants and why you have that silly grin on your face all the time..

AC will cause your muscles to contract over and over again. Depending on the voltage and current, you may not be able to 'disconnect' yourself and tragically expire.

DC voltage will pretty much depend on the voltage, current and mode of operation. Many electric fences use a pulse that will encourge you to go elsewhere, in the case of a cattle fence. Or repulse you in the case of a security fence. If it is a straight DC current it will cause you to hang on and regret the ride.
