Can a flange be considered as fitting?

No!

No more than an Elbow (which is bent pipe) could be considered "Pipe"

Most die hard pipers consider the families of Piping Components:

  • Pipe
  • Fittings
  • Flanges
  • Valves
  • Engineered Items (Expansion Joints, Spring Hangers, etc)
  • Assembly Items (Bolts, Gaskets, etc)
  • Specialty Items ("Y" Strainers, Steam Traps, Spec Blinds, etc)
