Latest Hybrids Aren't so Fuel Efficient

Being a fuel efficiency hawk, I was disappointed to see that automakers are beginning to change emphasis of hybrids from fuel efficiency to power. For example, astute street racer wannabees have found that a hybrid Accord drops 0-60 times by a full second over a standard engine. Plus, you can qualify for $3-4k in tax credits.

I'd rather have a car that people will actually buy and drive that only saves 2 mpg to a car no one wants that saves 10 gallons.
So when can we start seeing SUV's off the road, those are the big culprits in the gas guzzling wars.

I'll concur that fast cars are more fun. I only wish we had plug-in hybrids that took more power from nuclear/wind/hydro power rather than imported petrol sources.
