ASME Sect VIII Div.2 (Material)

11/01/2010 2:12 AM

As per ASME Sect VIII Div.2 Part 3 clause 3.2.2.1, "materials for non-pressure parts which are welded to pressure part shall meet all the requirements of paragraph 3.2.1"

I have a stock material, bought without stated a specific requirement as per Div.2 and plan to use for non pressure part (attached to pressure part) like skirt, lifting gusset and etc. Could I use this material by re-certificate according to Div.2 and kindly advice.

Thank you.

No to any full penetration into wetted portion of the vessel (eg. Inserts) & Primary load bearing members or columns, Stiffening rings, (Lifting Lugs need to be same material as the shell material, but for lower portionsof the skirts is normally acceptable), Recertify and re-confirm with chemical analysis of the material which should also support the WPS you would be using.
