Explosion Proof Room Fan Timer

11/03/2010 10:27 AM

We have a paint storage room that is explosion proof. There is a light that turns on with a fan when someone enters the room. If they inadvertently leave the light on, the fan pulls air out of our heated shop until the fan is turned off. Is there an explosion proof timer that could be attached to the light switch – or a motion detector that could be attached that would turn the fan and light off after a set time? If so, what type is best and how much should it cost?

Actually that is the web site that I found when I searched it.

I did not know if that is what would work best.

Thanks

You'll have to decide what works best for you in your specific application.

We do have some painting contractors who hang out here, they may have a better idea.

Don't give up yet.

Make sure the cables and glands to be fitted make an explosion-proof system as well. In Europe, the label EEx d would be found on the glands.

Gas group?

Temperature rating?

PLEASE leave this to an engineer that is certified as competent to work on EEx equipment.
The regulations are a legal nightmare if you don't know what you are doing and something goes wrong!
Paint rooms are a particular problem, as ventilation needs to clear heavy vapour at floor level.
