Confused About a Power Meter

11/06/2010 4:43 AM

I am not an Electrical engineer.. But the other day I have seen a device just like the ampmeter which has 3 outlines which are connected to the 3 phase voltage. and this device would be able to measure the Watt... My question is that the given watt is the instant watt or what? because I was having a problem by comparing the watt number I had from this device and the watt which should be used for the factory

Yo there,

Does it look somewhat like this ?

It's a Phase sequence tester. To test if you have the correct sequence and rotational field on a 3 phase system.

What is a Watt? Potential (Volt) * Current (Amp) * power factor (Cosine of the phase angle between potential and current) The ability to do work. This is indeed an instantaneous value. The work done, energy. is the integral (sum) of power (watts) over time: Watt-Hours.
