yorkie, what does the manual say?

Cannot find it? Well, you can get one here.

You will need the model number, AND the serial number. Enter them in the appropriate space and the proper manual will come up.

Happy chipping!

Sure it does. That is where the seed money for LynDoor™ Enterprises came from. I found all of the money that Carl buried in the snow!

[edit] Thanks lynlynch, and thanks everyone for the votes

yorkie When someone gives you a "good answer" as Doorman has done, it is customary to bestow a GA vote upon them. Just hit the "rate" button at the bottom left of Doorman's post and you can give him a GA, as I have done. Welcome to CR4.

I have a 1985 Yardman 10HP chipper. On mine, there is a drop down plate under the blades (bottom of machine that faces the ground under the actual chipper compartment) that can be unbolted.

If yours is the same or similar:

1. Remove the spark plug wire and ground it securely.

2. Remove the plate.

3. Using a Milwaukee right angle hand grinder or similar grinder, sharpen the blades following the original contour of the blade.

4. To rotate the blade easier (to access each blade head), remove the spark plug.

In any event, you should be able to access at least small areas of the blade(s) at a time without breaking down the entire machine (hopefully).

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the insanity. Try to shut the machine off before you try to sharpen it.
