Very cool video. To think also that that aircraft was also at least 50 years old and that the mentioned Apollo 11 mission was now 41 years old. Sigh.

It might be, a friend of mine emailed me the link. I like his comments at the end too.

Cool indeed!

Interesting to note that it now has a glass cockpit. I didn't realize the U-2s were still being updated.

I liked his comment, "If everybody could do that once..." Where do we sign up?

Very cool video.

Many years ago I helped design some equipment that goes into the U2. Even though it had to go through some severe environmental testing, I had never really thought about the reality that something I worked on reaches the edge of space.

Thanks, Kramarat.

Wow. Thanks that is way cool!

Back in 1957, I was doing my National Service in an air photographic unit at 1 Corps. This was before it became known when it was downed over Russia. Chapman Pincher, the science correspondent for the Daily Express, had an article about an American plane that was flying above the missile capability, photographing the USSR. We put it on a notice board, outside our 'keep'. The old man went bonkers; "even though it was a newspaper article, we lent it credibility by posting it". Total rubbish.

Oops. This may be fake. I saw another version that had no comments.

Oh well.

I believe this is from a video game.

Note that there is no ground support crew whatsoever on the carrier deck. No way any plane is going to take off without some kind of ground support crew.

Note also that there is no exhaust either. There wasn't even a hint of a murmur of a breeze from the exhaust affecting the helicopter blades right next to the F-35.

I believe that at this point there is only one V/STOL version of the F-35 built and it's one of the prototypes. It wouldn't be flying off a carrier deck, let alone executing a maneuver like that. There is a link there to another video of an F-35 taking off vertically, but at the end it credits X-BOX 360, so I think that was a sim also.

Didn't happen.

Don't be so hard on yourself. It was cool to watch. I wouldn't have known it wasn't real if nothing was said.

I guess video games have gotten better since Galaga, I think that's the last one I played. Who says the US doesn't produce anything anymore? We create better and better games through which to waste bigger and bigger gobs of time.

Besides, I'll never hold a candle to you lyn.

And before you even go there........no, I am not the jealous guest that hates your ability to google.
