Voltage Sensors/Transducers

11/17/2010 7:47 PM

I am using a TERN controller board to measure analog devices. I need to measure voltage at certain points on a system. This includes the voltage at the main power contactor (208V), voltage at a fan, voltage at a start capacitor and a couple of other points.

I need these sensors to return the voltage measured with an analog signal of 0-5v that is proportional to voltage measured.

Can anyone recommend low cost sensors for this purpose?

In all honesty, I hate to be harsh on computer hackers. But I despise laziness. Since you do not know how to design a pair of resistors to make a divider network or how to convert an AC voltage into a DC voltage, you are not qualified to design a data acquisition system. I recommend that you either go back to just shuffling data into different memory locations or that you examine the application notes produced by your controller board.

There are thousands of simple tutorials in the web on the concerns of data acquisition. If TERN decided to not to add to the flood, I recommend that you look into the National Instruments, Computing Measurements, and many university's web sites for application notes and tutorials. One thing that many formally trained computer engineers forget to include is an analog filtering network to limit input frequencies to one and only one of the lobes defined by the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem.

Not sure a couple of resistors would the be the correct way. It would be like driving a car without a safety belt. Use a isolated signal conditioner.

I'm looking for recommendations on voltage transducers, not methods on building my own sensor device.

Does anyone have production experience with LEM and other brands - if so, would you recommend them for use.

I have used many types of temperature and pressure transducers and other transducers. I have not implemented any voltage or current transducers and am looking for recommendations as to manufacturer, type and track records.

Are you still in the market?

Please take a look at our 108 series AC voltage transducer at www.a-a-c.com

Just type in 108 in the search engine and you will have the detailed outline drawing.
