DC loads Cable Sizing

11/19/2010 7:14 AM

What are the main factors to consider in calculating the size of the wire for DC loads?

Is it different from AC loads as in these loads, full load current is the main consideration? Please help guys, and suggest any link you know.

Best regards

For field wiring, amps is amps is amps. Amps know not from AC or DC.

There is no difference between the sizing of cables between AC and DC. in both the case it depends upon the full load current. Only the formula for evaluating the voltage drop is different in case of AC and DC system.

The criteria of calculating the conductor size of AC and DC loads is the same except for the Voltdrop calculations.

I will suggest that when you do voltdrop calculations, apply 1.5% of the system voltage during start-up conditions and 3% of the system voltage during steady-state conditions.

The best link is British Standard 7671 - available from all good BSI bookshops!
