11/27/2010 3:09 AM

Hello,

I just need to know which criteria affects the choice of the type of transformer (oil vs. dry) in an electrical installation? and what are the consequences based on this choice?

Thank you.

Oil costs US$87.95 a barrel and the air is free (so far).

As far as the 'consequences' are concerned, please do a Google search on transformers.

Type of building:

As per Indian Electricity Rules use of dry type transformer is mandetory in residential and commercial buildings.

Maintenance & Safety:

Losses of dry type transformer are more compared to oil type, however dry type transformer is safer and has low maintenance.

Cost:

Cost wise oil type transformers are affordable.
