Engine Oil

11/27/2010 1:16 PM

Dear All,

How to determine if the engine oil lasting for 10000km or 5000km?

Example in the market we got the engine oil code like 10w30.

From what i know the 10w oil temperature when is cold and 30 when its hot.

Please advice

Read the owner's manual. Use the oil it says to use. Change it when it says to change it.

Simple.

Banana, How to determine? lab- sampled and analyses, is how. Test might include; metal, water, viscosity, carbons. climate is the biggest factors involved, and temp is another. 10w-30w is a viscosity rating. Check with the API for pertinent facts.

You may need a by-pass type oil filtration system (two stage) to achieve 10000km service periods

The latest information from the Auto Industry is that you should change the oil every 7,000 miles (US miles) on new vehicles . the improvment in manufacturing has made this result possible. The multi=viscocity oils have been around a long time and they work. I back in 1958 ran tests in college lab and verified the results.

Hello everybody:

banana, in order that you can get a better idea about this matter, take a look to the following documents:

http://www.nordicgroup.us/oil.htm, http://www.synlube.com/basics.htm; and for your specific example (10W30 lube oil) see in the section Q & A (FAQ) http://www.synlube.com/faq.htm#SynReplace5w30

Good luck!

taste test. Even if you use synthetic oil and change it at longer intervals you should still change the filter at normal intervals.

What do yo mean it doesn't have oil in it. It had oil in it when I bought it.

I change my filter about every 3500 miles and add oil to bring it back up to required level ... I have done this for the last 12 years on my ford windstar ... the car has had issues with the electrical ... but not one iota of an issue with the motor ... gas mileage is still the same (marginally better than when it was new.) It is about to turn 200,000 miles.

Proper break in trip of about 200 miles round trip, which was pulling the boat around ... IE ... I dogged it. I changed the oil when I got back and have only changed the filter and replaced oil since then.

It is a V6 ... Never owned a 4 cylinder ... results may vary with smaller higher stressed engine.

Never kept a car longer than 4 years prior, so no personal experience to share other than I did the same to them and they were all V8's.

From my fathers mantra ... change the oil in the filter every 3500 miles (in the filter, not in the engine).

Oh and once a year I put in an additive, My dad called it x-6 Lencki (zMax is the market name and there is a blend called, AvBlend) instead of oil. This is an FAA certified additive for planes.

http://www.fabulousracers.com/zmax.html to get the history of how the product came into being and why few people know about it.

try a napa filter part number 4077 or wix number 24077. these are oil analysis kits. you take an oil sample from the engine and this kit has all the stuff you need to send the sample to the wix labratory. they will send back the findings. the other thing that i have been using on several vehicles is the "frantz oil filter" also known as the toilet paper filter, these really work and you will not have to ever change the oil. just internet search "frantz filter to get the info.

i try to follow the ten commandments of motor oil. #1 keep the engine full of oil. #2 keep it clean. the others fade in comparison to the first two.......
