Wavelengths Exposures Harmful?

11/27/2010 6:07 PM

Hi,

I have been observing the exposure of different types of wavelengths around us and wonder if there is any harm to us in some way or another that we don't know about. I know that study of wave from cell phone use is inclusive. we are not only expose to cell phone wavelength, but other waves such as from TVs, radios, local noises, and tons of other hidden wave we are probably don't know about. I think altogether of the waves around us is affecting us in some small way. what are your thought?

I can tell that you're just looking for trouble. "...if there is any harm to us in some way or another that we don't know about." Since we don't know about the harm then how can we observe or detect the harm caused.

You need to look more into the Physics of electromagnetic radiation. All radio frequencies have less energy per photon than the visible spectrum of light. Its only once one reaches the higher energies per photon of ultra violet light that one can cause the ionization of any atom. So radio frequencies cannot ionize anything. So when radio frequency photons get stopped by an object, they can only heat that object. Now some radio frequencies do get stopped by water more easily than others. These frequencies are the frequencies chosen for microwave ovens. All microwave ovens though deposit hundreds if not thousands of watts of power into a trapped cavity cavity where the food sits. The frequencies that are great for heating water are also lousy for radio communication, so they are not used in communication.

I think you should learn the definition of radiation and wavelength.

Take the spectrum of em background and do an energy per area calculation. It's sufficient to do a log scale, just 1 kHz, 10 kHz, 100 kHz, etc. It'll make an interesting graph and you'll immediately grasp the insignificance of the lower frequency stuff. It may make you paranoid about Quasars, but that's another story for another day.

Thanks all gurus out there for your great answers that educated someone like me on these kind of curiosity questions. You helped us be better and more understanding of thing around us. Again thank you

Download and read the EMC standards, you will find just how harmful they are and can be, the future electrical regulation in the UK (BS7671) will take account of this in the next coming, as they believe there is a link between mains frequency electromagnetic fields and the body's response to melamine( i think) production, they have already set levels for reasonable amounts in varying situations but as yet all cabling issues and equipment in the field will probably fail any such levels put forward especially in industry when eventually tested, some companies that are large enough coca cola etc do have E.M surveys to protect equipment and people. this will lead to different electrical designs in buildings and more maths and science for the common electrician so be prepared to learn.

P.S it can take a little while to read but it is very interesting, i don't read novels (my opinion)

Run! Run! Run to the store and buy some tinfoil before that dastardly LynLynch corners the market (like an EMI challenged Bunky Hunt) and quadruples the price!

Brings back old memories. I was using a lot of Ag filled epoxies and silicones at the time.

I was very happy when I learned that,

"The Hunt brothers declared bankruptcy. By 1987 their liabilities had grown to nearly $2.5 billion against assets of $1.5 billion. In August of 1988 the Hunts were convicted of conspiring to manipulate the market."

I was making relays with silver-carbide contacts during one of their gyrations and had to lock them (the contacts, not the Hunts) in the safe. Do you remember the old man? Maybe late 50s, early 60s? He went off the reservation politically - thought free rural mail delivery meant communism or something like that.
