AutoCAD - Floor Design

12/01/2010 4:16 AM

I am not too familiar or should say not at all familiar with Autocad- I need to do a utility in an AutoCAD type program or better a macro where a person is able to do a design like of a floor or deck with tiles, or boards or of a marquetry layout of their own and that this utility will from the simple design calculate the bdft of wood or linear ft of wood per width and lengths required for their design.

Is it possible that there is an application software program available that can be integrated into a website? The user would use like a virtual blank graphed paper or a grid on the computer- to do their design and submit it for a quotation and the utility would calculate the required board feet depending on the widths of different boards and lengths of different boards.

Thanks CEW

Some of the major big box stores have this type of program in use now in there various sales areas. I would assume it is commercially available for someone to purchase. Other wise you could write a simple program in one of the various spread sheets on the market, or use one of the rational data base suits as well.

AutoCad does have some of this function available now. You need to be fairly familiar with the programs use in-order to make these calculations though. I would tend to look else where for helping the average Joe with this type of issue.
