Fitting Selection and Equivalent Materials

Pl. put forward your thoughts/suggestions regarding this…..

If one piping material has been finalized for one design conditions for above ground process piping.... how can I select fittings materials for same design conditions ........................ which standard no. deal with that ..........and what is the authentic procedure for fitting material selection..........?

Also please let me know which standard I have to refer for obtaining equivalent materials?
