Most common brands carry CE approval in addition to other worldwide approvals.

Of course, there is no 'best' drive but there may be more suitable selections for your business, type of application, knowhow and location and availability not to mention local or available technical expertise and support. There are many facets as to why some makes may be preferable to others depending on circumstances.

Maybe if you can clarify what you are looking for and want to achieve giving your situation and options, guidance could be offered how to determine your selection process.

Rockwell Automation makes a series of AC drives known as "Armorstart". They come in a couple of horspower ranges, and are programmable so that you can change things like the internal clock frequency, stuff like that. One of the biggest advantages that I have found is that the Armorstart works with a modular cord system that Rockwell also makes. So you can basically plug and play. you dont need weeks to install it; a tech that knows about this stuff can attach the connectors in minutes. And becuase of this system, you can move them around a lot easier than if you were running conduit. They are CE and UL, and they have other options like a dynamic brake that uses the feedback regeneration to stop the motor, or they have a control brake, that uses a voltage that you supply to energize the mechanical brake of the motor. The control voltages can be had in a variety or ranges, and the units have inputs and outputs, so you can treat it like a PLC and have the unit act on sensor inputs. They use Devicenet....or is it DeviceLogix? Maybe both, Dang it, I forget. DeviceNet for sure. Anyway, they are just about to release an Ethernet I/P version. So you can string an Ethernet wire, you can daisy chain the Armorstarts together, and they also provide short circuit and overload protection, so you can have one breaker feed a group (naturally there is a limit to how many). This way you can tell each one to start after the in rush of the previous one, saving money on installation. Rockwell also makes a decent line of AC drives that are modules that can be installed in an enclosure and hard wired to fuses and breakers, so thats an option too. But the Armorstart has done all that work for you, so it makes life easier, and saves money on installation and reconfiguration.

The stand alone drive is called Powerflex:
