MOV = motor-operated valve?

MOV = Metal Oxide Varistor?

And, what happens when a 24V filament lamp is connected, rather than a high-impedance DVM? Oh, never mind... wrong thread

As what i have noticed in our plant, MOV usually does not operated with analog signal...some MOV's will stop at certain percentage of opening/closing feedback (inching type or intermediate type). there are limit switch to sense for full close/open position...and it will give signal to the controller in a form of digital signal (DI). when the operator wants to open the MOV he will then sends digital signal via DO card. In short, MOV is for On/Off control.. 4~20mA is an analog signal which usually used in modulation control.. Just an idea..thanks

With your question, it appears that you would like to use MOV (Motor Operated Valve) as a control valve. MOV is not used as control valve. It is used to open/close the valve using the motor power, in addition to do it manually. MOV is generally used with reversible motor starter so that the motor can operate in both direction (close in one direction and open in other direction).

As the OP wasn't specific at all we may never know to what he was referring to but it could have been an old Allen Bradley instruction. Here it is.

Good one RDGRNR, that is what I was thinking too. MOV- Move instruction in PLC. You commonly use somewhere when dealing with 20/40 signal.
