The energy converted to heat due to flow of current is I²Rt, where I is the rms current, R is the resistance of the conductor and t is the time period of flow.

The temperature attained by the conductor will depend on the net of heat generated minus heat dissipated by way of conduction, conection and radiation.

This seems too simple. Are you looking for something else?

conduction, conection and radiation.

You didn't spell check, did you?

Thanks

But no, Lyn was right, stupid of me not to have noticed it even when i had 15 minutes to correct it....how can i get discipline in English from my young Indian engineers if i am not above reproach myself ?

I know that kvsridhar's language skills are beyond question, not to mention that I know he has a good sense of humor.

And what about poor ronald A.? He would likely be inclined to use the word conection when discussing heat in a conductor.

Happy Holidays.

I was being half humorous and half reproachful to LL. The reason being is that you DO have a very good grasp of English and the identity of the letter omission was, by the context of your post, easily identified (conVection). In other words, "I knew what you meant" and his correction was unnecessary.

Re: heat calculation in a conductor

In fact, I found myself wondering "How does connection relate to heat in a conductor? It relates to heat in the termination, but it will only relate to the conductor heat for a short distance away from the connection..."

I did not extrapolate conVection from that!

Funny how the omission of one letter can cause all sorts of confusion.

Oh yes, how so little can make so much difference..

like "looking at her sternly" as opposed to "looking at her stern".. yes?

Forget all that other stuff This is what you need Neher-McGrath. Very simple and straight forward.

I just got back from a little trip I took back through your history.

You're either s student or a novice electrician. Which is it?
