Free products might be more well-received....

2 of them can do it so long as it's not an exact repetition.

Any advertising must be placed in the Commercial Space forum. Multiple posts in a short period of time will be considered spam. Please review Section 14 of the CR4 Site FAQ about advertising. All users are encouraged to register

It is fortuitous that your message was posted as I was about to comment on just this issue.

In this thread, MCC Panel Shop Drawing, several posts were deleted and marked as Spam and as being Irrelevant.

Did the post that was considered to be Spam contain a reference to a commercial entity that was in response to the OP's question?

I think that the moderators may have to take into consideration that often times, a thread that was not commercial in nature at its start, may end up with a posting or two in it somewhere in the chain of posts that contains a reference to a commercial entity.

In my opinion, such is normal and such a post should not end up being deleted and replace with a cryptic message from a moderator.

Also... would you not be better off adding text indicating what issues exist with a given post to the post itself instead of just deleting the offending post and replacing it with a notice from the moderator?

The role of a moderator is also to pass on to the user group, through education, what is acceptable and what is not. To just remove and replace the offending text offers no room for enlightenment. Marking the offending text would allow the user group to understand what the moderator group considers to be outside of the established norms for the forum.

I also urge caution... I have seen in the past on other forums, where a drastic change in moderation efforts (and no... I am not saying the recent changes have been drastic) have caused the forum to rapidly become of no value to the user community.

Thank you for the feedback. One of the comments in the thread you linked to was removed and replaced with this text. (As opposed to the "old" way, simply deleting comments, which was met with a lot of negative feedback.)

CR4 ADMIN: Deleted Post

Spam: This post was deleted because it contained advertising outside the Commercial Space forum. Please review Section 14 of the CR4 Site FAQ about advertising.

This clearly indicates that the post was spam because it contained advertising. A link is provided to the forum rules for additional information. That particular user was soliciting services for a fee. It's a gray area - but while it's probably okay to say "you can find product X at Company Y" it's not really okay to say "I'll sell you product X, send me your email address". Users may contact each other via the private message system if they're interested.

We remove "offending" text because it's just that - something our users generally don't want to or shouldn't have to read. This could also include offensive or hateful language, inappropriate comments toward a particular user, or political/religious attacks. Further, we don't permit the posting of phone numbers because there's no way to verify the individual hasn't posted someone else's number.

The moderation team has been asked to remove posts that are related to a deleted post because they might not make sense without that original text.

I did try to link link the OP (who was maybe jesting). That said, you've given full explanation, so hopefully he/she is guided on their way.

Amusingly (or not, as the case may be), I didn't know exactly how/where people could post commercial stuff. It possibly escaped my attention because there was not a KrisDel™ section .
