DG Set Rental Service

01/01/2011 11:56 AM

Due to delay in availability of utility power, It is planned to do commissioning of the new plant I am working on with DG sets rented

The project is having 33 KV, 11KV, 6.6 KV and 415 volts voltage levels.

The DG power can be distributed to various unit (Air comp unit, DM plant, Auxiliary boiler, other utility and main plants) from 33KV or 11 KV SWGR centrally located.

Other voltage are plant/Unit level voltage requiring DGs at different locations.

The plan is to put DGs near power plant, running parallel and feeding 11KV SWGR. The power shall be received by different load centers/units at 11KV through permanent distribution arrangement.

Pl. Share your experience with DG rental service and any suggestion in this regard are welcome

Also suggest arrangement/reading/alternate to handle 4MVA of power generated from DG sets.

Make a clear distribution chart.

Have an electrcal interlock between KEB AND DG WITH UNDER AND OVER VOLTAGE RELAYS

In the agrement dont forget to add the loading capacity of dg like 70 or 85 % .

AND ALSO ADD RESOPNCE TIME FROM COTRACTOR TO ANY PROBLEM.

Have clarity in A,B & C CHECK ON DGS .

Check for voltages and harmonic levels of dg .Proper copper earthing is a must

To start with your DG Set rentals,

1. You have your own transport services for your Generators to be transported to customer sites. Money spent on transport from your yard to customers sites will cost you 50% of your income through Generators.

2. You have 20 and 40 ft trailers mounted Generators for quick installation, and replacement and for standby application.

3. Always have 1 or 2 gensets of similar rating as standby for any breakdowns to replace at site.

4. you should have your own workshop for FIP and injector service, This consumes 25 to 30% of your income, as customer do not declare the actual load, give only tentative load. 90% of the time, Gensets always require 60% load, frequent problem on injectors getting damaged.

Where do you operate your rental service in India.

I have worked for 2 rental companies in Middle east having 625 and 375 Gensets from 15kva to 3 MW both in LV and MV range. We had supplied DG sets to projects from 1MW to 100MW in 11KV, 6.6KV, 580, 440, 415, 380, 220 3 phase, 50 and 60Hz.

I am now located at Bangalore, email: balaspark@hotmail.com
