OEM market segment question

01/04/2011 10:35 AM

I am trying to find a listing for OEMs for specific market segments. More specifically, bulldozers. I am compiling a listing of all OEMs in North America & global by quantity. I also looking for volume within this market segment by units. Any suggestions?

Yes, farmatt is a CR4 member. If you click the link, it will take you to his member profile. He is more of an Ag equipment guy, but he may have some insight for you.

Hmm, I thought I made this comment earlier--anyway--the Thomas Register is the friend of all engineers and purchasing agents. It used to be in multivolume green set available at most public libraries--I'm pretty sure it's online now.

For some reason your comment earlier would not come through. I don't know why. It isn't part of the thread. I appreciate your help. I have been down Thomas Register road with no luck. I was hoping for an avenue that I missed. Thank you.

"I was hoping for an avenue that I missed."

You missed Legwork Avenue. And until you take a trip down Research Road you'll never get there.

It appears to me that you are now coasting down Lazy Boy Lane and may miss the turn to Easy Street.

If you are old enough to remember when all we had was books, you'll know what I mean.

Good Luck.

rhkramer,

the on line thomas register isn't as user friendly as one would like. But it is still a source of info.

Thanks! Haven't used it much if at all--I think I looked for something a few years ago.

Use the NAICS code for this market.

Spent 11 years in this industry, working for an OEM who has an active presence in both the AG and CE sides of the business.

You may find people generally reluctant to share their volumes...but you can discern this info through old-fashioned research: search directed trade publications, Commerce Department and EPA findings, etc.

Start by identifying the list of OEM's and their respective product offerings. Set out your definitions, too. Does your survey include both tracked and wheeled vehicles? What about multi-function units which can function as a bulldozer, given a particular set of options / bucket / blade changes? Are you looking only for NA-built units?

Good luck...

I will include both tracked and wheeled units, but keep them seperate. I won't worry too much about the options, but concentrate on the base unit. We are attempting to start with the NA market and then move to global. I appreciate the direction you have provided to me. Are you still involved with AG & CE OEMs?

No. Moved to another company / industry a couple of years back.

Good Luck!
