problem with low frequency

01/04/2011 1:01 PM

I have a 11kw prime power generator 220v, 50hz, single phase, 1550 rpm, connected to ATS and VTMS ( Voltage and temperature monitoring system). The generator is showing low frequency alarm and shutting down itself while it is in automode with Microprocessor control panel DSE5220. But it runs manually. But we need to run it auto mode.

Please kindly advise us on the snag.

Is it overloaded?

Have you physically checked the actual rpm?

50 Hz should be 1500 rpm (loaded). So 1550 should be alarming 'high'.

Possibly your microprocessors frequency sensing is out, or its tachometer is out.

It sound as though the DSE5220 is set to run at 60hz even though the voltage regulator is set to 50hz. Make sure your settings in the DSE match the AVR. Then check your governer to make sure it's not overspeeding - I usually have to adjust the RPM a bit to get the tack "Just so".
