Thermal Face Scrub - What is the Reaction?

01/06/2011 7:58 AM

Have you seen the new product, Gillette Fusion Thermal Face Scrub - it gets very warm when applied to the skin. So warm, on first trial, I almost washed it off because it felt as though it would get too warm for comfort. So, what is the reaction causing this heat?

The P&G website says "In this innovative formula, heating technology is activated on contact with water to provide warming comfort".

Heres the link: http://www.pgdermatology.com/gilletteinnovations/download/pdf/GILLETTE_Press_Release.pdf

As far as the actual chemical reaction, I have no clue but you might want to try Google to find the answer.

Tried Google and unless I am asking the wrong question, it's not there.

Okay - that's very close to what I Googled, and basically got the same response as here - one exception - someone conjectured the use of capsaisin. That's not likely. I have used that as a pain reliever and the "heat" sensation continues for quite a long time. The thermal face scrub is obviously a chemical reaction that depletes the reactants in about 30 seconds. Capsaisin would continue to burn until long after the shave.

This is obviously proprietary informtion. I just figured some chemical wiz would have a guess at what the chemicals were. So, no one really cares?

In a year or so when the generic brands start coming out, we will be able to find out.
