I have a scanner that has become a paper weight since buying a win 7 machine, due to new drivers not being written.

The only way I know of, is to obtain a Win xp installation disk, reformat the hard drive and do a clean install.

Are you aware of the compatibility mode which enables Windows 7 to support XP devices and software?

It's an HP scanjet 4400c. Compatibility mode won't work. I could probably get it to work with Linux OS, but it's not really worth the trouble.

The only hope, (that I know of), at this point, is that there has been a massive backlash against HP for their lack of Win 7 compatible drivers for older equipment, and they are starting to write and release drivers.............so far mine has not come up. Maybe at some point.............they've got a lot of very angry ex costumers.

My scanner was relatively inexpensive, some people have some expensive equipment that's only 4-5 years old and useless under Win 7.

Don't know if you're aware of this: Semper Fidelis, Assistant Adjutant Department of North Carolina Mideast Division, Marine Corps League Home Fw: HP Printer _ Support Response I think ... it's too late for a re-do ....... WHAT A GREAT WAY TO LET A COMPANY KNOW ABOUT HOW THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS DOING! Read below before opening the attachment. This soldier in Iraq had an HP printer which quit working. He contacted HP tech support for help to fix it. HP told the soldier that he would have to pay them for the advice. Watch this 60 second video for his response to them. I don't know how many folks will end up seeing this .. . . but HP customer relations probably wish they had helped him out or even sent him a new printer. https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=a05e160864&view=att&th=12c89eba04713cda&attid=0.1&disp=attd&zw

That deer story was funny as hell. I couldn't find the second one about the soldier.

There is a large groundswell of hatred that's built up toward HP over this stuff. Talk about a huge blunder, did they really expect everyone to go out and buy new HP equipment after intentionally rendering stuff that's only a few years old obsolete?

If you have the soldier story, you can go to that page and cut it paste it as a direct link using that little planet and chain to the right of the abc above.
