Windows XP error message

03/28/2007 6:46 AM

Hello, especially to all Microsoft Windows experts. Help is needed to get rid of an error message that comes up every time I switch on my computer. The message tells me that a file cannot be found. This is at least accurate because I removed the (programme) file. The problem is trying to find what programme is trying to call up the file. Going into Regedit and doing a Find came up with a blank, as did checking Start Up, Desktop and numerous desktop.ini files. Using the normal Find to search for a mention of the deleted file within other files also came up blank. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what files call up programmes at switch on, or better still how one can trace back to find out what is calling up a a specific programme?

Regards,

Tony Lee.

Try going to the Run type in "MSCONFIG" then go to the startup pane and deselect the application that is causing the problem

Guest,

Going into MSCONFIG revealed the cause of the problem which is now cured. Thanks for your help.

I'd be interested to know the error message/file etc. There are others here who know more than me , but a few thoughts ;

Re - install the application , and un-install with a better method

Do you have a viable restore-point

Check running processes with Ctrl+Alt+Delete

Are you using Home/Pro edition

I'll watch what the qualified tell you (It may save me from XP one day )

Good luck , Kris
