A port can be programed in different ways

the original port was generally known as a Centronix port and it was programmed and used by.

1 Through the bios functions interrupt xx (i forgot the detail)

2 Direct writing to the port/registers

3 Software drivers

The port was limited to output only but could be tweaked,

4 bit i/o was also made (laplink or similar)

The port was improved several times resulting in full bidirectional functionality.

The port can be used for many applications.

Driving 4 stepper motors

switching 64 or more relays.

Connect to PIR.s for security

use to drive a (old) printer.

What are your requirements?
