i need some specific details about the rotating building in dubai .. im a first year student in civil engineering and i have a project about this topic
i searched for it and i didnt find any deep information ! all i found is that the building is constructed around a central core and each floor is composed of individual pie-like sections that are pre-built and hoisted up the central core ..and this is not enough!
From some of the descriptions, "static utilities" such as elevators and plumbing are located in the stationary core. So they wouldn't be a big special problem. Electrical service to the rotating parts could be done via copper rings around the core, with moving brushes or rollers following around the rings. An analogy would be a slip-ring motor.
There are also such things as hydraulic commutators that can feed several lines to a rotating assembly, such as a crane. Conceivably the idea could also work for water supply and sewage, but it would be challenging to implement it.

Where does it turn ?
May be under a heavy earth shudder but then the rotation will not be around a verical center line !
Oh yes, the guy turned during the jump. I see now the realtionship.
Now for the original question. It can be (as it was said) as in an excavator where there are distribution rings as for electric current but considering the core diameter it could be quite difficult to maintain such seals tight. I consider as more probable (but I can be wrong since I do not detain the truth) that each part of the pie has a "service unit" which is connected automatically with the water supply and the sink when the "pie" is in the right position. Several such "connectors" can be placed on the periphery.
Whoever has control over the position of each floor should pay higher rent. The folks on the other side should pay less. Or would they have block meetings to vote on which way to turn the floor?
Does the building profile really intercept enough wind/solar to generate 40MW?
